Why is my phone vibrating continuosly even its switched off?

I have nokia lumia 830, it is vibrating continuously even if the mobile is switched off.the vibration stops only when the power supply is cut down, once the battery is removed it stops.

something is definitely screwy with the hardware.

did it continue when the battery was placed inside? If not, there's a chance it is little more than a rare quirk.
