How do I keep underlining when adding new text?

Keeping underline when adding new text

I'm working in a table with a thick black border at the bottom of each row. When i'm adding additional text, the bottom border goes away. If I try to do just a normal underline, it doesn't quite match up with the border. How can I keep the bottom border continuous when I add new text?
