Why do pictures and songs, stored on my sd card, corrupt randomly?

One week ago, I purchased a Microsoft Lumia 535. Almost instantly, i noticed that songs and pictures would be corrupted, resulting in them being un-playable, and the images being distorted. Why is this. My memory card is 5 years old, but it has never given any issue. Please help!

Although Windows Phone support Class 4 and higher microSD cards, MS recommends at least Class 10 for optimal performance. The reason of your issues could also be due to software glitches with the phone's OS which would get ironed out after a hard reset.
