Windows Central Question

Hi, I am using Surface pro3, and am contemplating going for the Dell U2412 monitor, which I could also use for my laptop. I am not tech savvy. Just want to understand if the monitor is compatible and future ready for my use. (I do understand that u2412 does not have an HDMI port, but can that be addressed by a converter chord?).

I think monitor you chose is outdated, there are better monitors available, check dell s2415h, if you strictly need usb in monitor u2414h. It has everything and will consume less power than 2412

Personally I prefer the 2412 since it offers 1920x1200 resolution; newer models use 1920x1080 resolution which matches standard HDTV resolution but to me is sub optimal for real work. I guess it depends on what you plan on using it for but as a tech guy (database professional) I find having the extra vertical screen space to be a huge advantage.

As to compatibility, it appears that the Surface 3 pro has a mini displayport connector, so for the the 2412 you'll need a mini displayport to DVI adapter cable. For the 2414 you can use either a mini displayport to mini displayport cable OR a mini displayport to HDMI cable, and the 2415 would require a mini displayport to HDMI cable, since it lacks a displayport connection.
