Why won't my Win 10 Edge open from the start menu tile icon?

Win 10 Edge will not open from start menu tile icon

Edge has disappeared from Task bar and clicking on Edge tile in start menu does nothing. Only way to open edge is search for a web site and Edge will open with that new site, Also problems with smooth scrolling in Facebook needs constant redo of left click to scroll
