Why isn't my Lumia 920 running Windows 10M 10512.1000 detected as a device by my MacBook Air?

Windows Central Question

Lumia 920 running Windows 10M 10512.1000 not detected as a device by my MacBook Air

So, I used the Windows Phone app for the Macs to transfer my files and music but now the device is not even detected on the Mac. Upon connecting the USB cable, the phone goes in charging mode and Mac doesn't even realise it's connected to a device.
