Phone stuck on lockscreen, running windows 10

Hi,
My phone is currently stuck on the lockscreen when I enter my pin number nothing happens. I can type an infinite number of digits for my pin and the phone won't respond. I tried multiple soft resets but it does not fix anything. Is there anyway I can avoid a hard reset or is that my only choice? My phone did show the home menu for a second before going back to my lockscreen.

If a soft reset isn't making it work, something must be corrupt, causing this. As you suggest, hard reset appears the only possibility. You could try without an SD card in it you have one in just to change one aspect of the system. Or plug into a PC and try another. Other than that, think you know the way forward.
