How can I fix my lumia 1020 which fails to output alarm/notification sounds ?

The volume level is 10/10 and it only vibrates when the alarm goes off. This issue is recurring. No, restarting the phone did not help. Thank you.

Windows Phone 8.1? Or the Win10 preview?

Try going into Settings / Notifications & actions, then scroll down to the alarm app. Click on the alarm & clock app and check its sounds option




Edit: on the Win10 preview, these settings are in Settings/System/notifications & actions
