My External hard drive worked with WIn 8.1, but not showing with Win 10

My External hard drive that worked well with WIndows 8.1, does not appear on "This PC" after I upgraded to windows 10 (Dell Inspiron) . Upon connecting the USB plug, I hear rge right sound, and the device manager shows an icon with the comment "V:I product string, Driver error". What do I do next?

With the device plugged in, check windows update.

Also what is the model of the hard drive? Have you checked the manufacturer website for a firmware update?
