Windows Central Question

I have a Lumia 640 that my wife uses. I'd like to use Facebook Messenger, and not text messages, to communicate with her.

But I want Messenger to give notifications, by sound and live tile update, when she receives a message. And it does - except in Battery Saver mode, which just happens automatically!

I did go to the Battery Saver app, but for some reason, it does not display "enable background" settings for Facebook Messenger.

So how do I enable Messenger notifications in Battery Saver mode? Or just no chance and I have to use texts (and pay for it) if I want reliable notifications?

There is an option to add apps under battery saver settings:

That is correct, but is no longer a thing in Windows Phone 8.1

The point is to save battery, which kills notifications. As intended.

You'll have to turn battery saver off to get those alerts, but then you can just change other settings like changing email to manual,e tc.
