Which is better: the People hub or individual apps from social network services?

Which do you prefer for getting updates from your friends, family members, companies you follow, and other entities: the People hub or the individual apps or websites from Facebook, Twitter, and other social network services? Is either way better than the other?

I noticed that the Facebook app includes in its feed something that the People hub doesn't: a post that includes a photo that my cousin was tagged in. However, in the People hub, when I go to the contact list and tap on my cousin's name, I see the post.
