Lumia not recognized by PC

So when I plug my lumia phone in my laptop (running windows 10) it doesn't pop up in "This PC / My Computer".
A "safely remove" icon shows and I can see the device in Device Manager, but its status is "Needs Troubleshooting".

I have two phones L630 and L640 XL. I have the problem with both of them.
Any ideas how to fix the issue ??
Things I tried so far:
1) I tried using another cable
2) I tried all 4 usb ports on my laptop (some are 2.0 some are 3.0 )
3) Plugging the phones in my roommate's PC (both working with no issues)
4) Troubleshooting the device
5) Uninstalling the Lumia 630 (all icons) in device manager, then plugging the phone in to reinstall them (both options: swtiched on or off )
6) I have restarted both the phones and the laptop couple of times, still no luck
7) I have tried to refresh my PC, but got an error message during the procedure and it reverted all changes.

I assume the problem is from my laptop, because the phones are recognized by other computers. But I ran out of ideas.

I do have the Phone Companion app installed (I even reinstalled it, because somewhere people were saying it might fix the issue)
However it doesn't recognize the phones. I get "Want to manually move some files? Plug in your phone." The funny thing is it managed to recognize an android device :/ .

I also uninstalled all device's drivers kept the device plugged in and searched for drivers from Windows Update, as suggested on a stackexchange thread, but still no luck.

I'm asking the basic questions as I have 4 windows phones and 4 Win10 computers and they all work with each other with zero issues. (1020; 820; 830; 640)
Try a different cable.
Try a different computer.
Try going to a Microsoft Store or Best Buy, etc. and plug your phone in...see what happens...

Then perhaps you need to refresh your install (essentially performing a clean install on your computer). Do this by Settings-> Update & security-> Recovery-> Reset.
