Windows Central Question

inserting a usb key

Since I switched to windows 10, my computer bugs and has to restart (after I take of the key) every time I try to insert a storage USB key

Re: inserting a usb key

Is this an upgrade?
Pc purchased with windows 10?
Clean install?
Have you tried a different key?
Does the USB key work on other computers?

Re: inserting a usb key

Yes it is an upgrade, and the PC is much older than W10
I tried several keys, which all work without problem on other computers (including one which is also operating W10)

Re: inserting a usb key

If they keys are working on other computers (even one which is Windows 10) and not working on yours then there seems to have been a driver conflict somewhere along the road.

Try the following:

If you're using a usb mouse you may lose functionality and will need to restart via pressing down the power button until the pc shuts off. So make sure you have saved everything and no other programs are open before you do this.

Search in the task bar for "Device manager"
Select it.
At the bottom you will see "Universal Serial bus Controllers"
Expand that
Right click on the items there and select Uninstall.
Restart your computer.
