Why is direct play hanging when trying to activate it ?

why is direct play hanging when trying to activate it ?

when i checked the box of direct play which was under legacy compomnets of windows features it was showing a window that it was searching for required files and it was hanging i cannot even close this window....i've realised that i have to disable anti-virus to activate direct play but that also didn't worked for me i've no skype installed in my pc please help me to activate direct play
