Security issues with universal apps on PC

My bank has an app on Windows phones. Recently it made an universal app that could be used from PC. Unfortunately, it stopped working in a couple of months. On enquiry, I was told by my bank that they have blocked their app on PC for security reasons. So here is my question. Are the universal apps unsafe on PC?

That is a common statement for abandoning apps because of any reasons (might be they dont want to spend on Windows App dev / maintenance). They would obviously not detail what security issues are, since that would also expose their own security measures how week it is wrt other banks who have apps on various platforms !!
