I don't understand the moving picture on my camera roll

When I review my photos on the camera roll, it seems that the actual picture taken is actually a one second small video.

I thought this was perhaps a way you could maybe eliminate someone blinking or something, but it doesn't appear you can choose at what point to save the photo.

So what's it for then?

That is an interesting feature. I had no idea that it had that either.

I now realise I am talking about the Living Images feature though.

Can you select your still from the animation, or is it just the one you are given?

I would like to know the answer as well! I have a 950XL. I cannot find a way to extract a still on the phone. Is this coming in a W10 Mobile update?

This is a feature of W10 I think. But you can turn it off. It's in the general settings in your camera app.
