it is the password you use for your MS account. If you can log into your Microsoft Account, you should be able to get through reset recovery.

if ou are looking to disable it to resell your device, you can go to acount.microsoft.com and in the Devices tab, you should see your phone as well as a link to "Get Recovery Key"
