Most likely yes, but you can avoid that by having a backup set.

As for your apps, you would have to look into each app and see if there's an option to set a backup. The ones that don't, I think you will possibly lose your data.

Incorrect. If you upgrade, your data will be retained. Only if you flash the phone with the recovery or other tools, or reset using about or the button combo, will you lose data.

Regardless, it's always good to have a backup.
