Why is my micro sd card identified as a usb device

[Windows Central Question]

on my surface pro 3 it is shown as an sdxc card. On a surface pro 4 sd cards show as a usb device.

An SD card reader does connect internally through the USB bus. Have you checked for the latest drivers for the SD card reader from Microsoft?

I have used Windows update and all updates are current. Is that what you mean
