How do I recover password to administrator account

[Windows Central Question]

Mother-in-law has windows 10 and does not remember password to administrator acct? I have no problem using computer as a user but, I have to install some programs and we need access to admin account. We have recovery disk. I was hoping to get the best way around this issue.

Legally there is no way around the admin password, once it is set. Being able to circumvent the password would completely negate the necessity of it in the first place.

A clean install in the only option.

It is not clear... You say you can use the PC as a user... Your log-on or your Mother In Law's?

If you are using a different log on from her, have her log on and she probably has Admin by default.
