950XL. Reading text not working

My 950XL was reading text messages fine in both our cars. Now it won't work in either. (Phone is fully updated).
Cortana says there is a text message and after the bleep, I respond READ IT but there is then another bleep - and nothing.

Cars are a Toyota and a Merc. I've re-paired and checked settings, anyone else got this problem please

Check if the option is enabled in Cortana settings:

Cortana >> Notebook >> Settings >> Read incoming text messages aloud
