I cannot access the key board when making a call?

When making a call the screen is off/black, if I am asked to dial extra numbers I cannot, as I cannot see the the keyboard or anything.

Which phone? This mostly has to do with sensors or a lack thereof. When the screen goes dark, press the lock button and then unlock it. This should give you simple access to the number pad Works on my 635

I am having the same trouble on my Lumia 950 XL. Only by laying phone on a flat surface can I use the key pad while in a call. I think it is the feature that makes the screen go black when in a call so you don't accidently press a button while holding phone to your ear. When I hold phone in my hand during a call, the key padt flickers wildly and will not allow me to press any buttons. MS please fix.
