windows 10 mobile update hard reset before or after

Hello everyone. So i want to upgrade to windows 10 mobile but i found out that it is good to do a hard reset (master reset) for better performance. But i don't know if i have to do the hard reset before upgrading or after or both. Thanks for your answer. Btw i have lumia 640 xl
