I've lost my microphone unless the phone is in speaker mode?

i've lost my microphone unless the phone is in speaker mode.

I did a phone reset which restored the mic for a single call then the problem returned.

Phone is Nokia Lumia 830, Windows Phone 8.1, update 2.
