How do you set default ring tone for sms?

I am trying ( like on my previous nokia/lumia phones) to set different tones for sms, call, messenger...

The problem is: If I set a different ring tone for each sms contact... where do I set the default tone ring for all other anonymous contacts?

It looks like if I set in system menu " default" it allows to use the personal ring tone... but the default disappear...

Set a tone you want but different than "Default" when first time in Settings -> Notify Center, elsewhere Phone still has no default saved

By "system menu" are you referring to Settings app > System > Notifications and actions > Messaging? If yes, then the "default" sound is a pre-selected tone which you cannot change.

If you didn't mean that then go to Settings app > System > Notifications and actions > scroll down and tap Messaging. Here you'll find some toggle options for privacy, vibration, etc. Tap the "Notification sound" drop down menu box and select a custom tone you want to set as a common tone for all your contacts, except those for whom you've already set a custom tone.

I did as you said at point 2 but when I receive a message the only sound I get is the one I set for all ( it looks like the personalization doesn't work..)
If I leave " default" the custom tone works...

Yup, I found out something not so good. When you set a custom notification tone for any app in the Notifications & actions settings, only that tone is used for all notifications from that app.

In your case, if you select any tone other than "default" in the Notifications & actions settings > Messaging, you'll hear that very tone for all your SMS notifications no matter what text ringtone you have assigned to your contacts. And if you set "default" as the notification tone then you'll hear the custom ringtones you have assigned to your contacts plus a default tone* for all other contacts' and stray SMSs.

*default tone - you cannot change it :eck:

PS:- I just tested it with Phone app. Custom tones work for it. I guess the issue is unique to Messaging.

Yes I think so, for incoming calls and apps it works... The issue is unique to messaging... It should be notified...
