I know things aren't future proof to an extent but how future proof would the Lumia 650 be? Also I don't want to invest on a 950/XL due to financial problems. Also no negative please like "Put a fork in it..." please and thank you for your advice.

Sure. 650 got firmware updates as 550 and 950, instead of older series.
I own a 650, i'm fully satisfied of it

It'll be supported by Windows 10 Mobile probably longer than you're likely to own the handset.

There's most probably going to be new handsets produced with more hardware and wizzy features, but the 650 will carry on running Windows 10 Mobile within the capabilities of its hardware.

Hmm you're right thank you for your help if only MSFT put a more powerful SOC on there.

Why not buy a 640XL and upgrade it to Windows 10.... 640XL has a decent spec and should be lot cheaper than the 650
