How do I update my Windows Live Mail 2012?

HOW do i update my windows live mail 2012

I have just waisted hours trying to update my windows live mail and have no idea how to do any of it. I am furious about having to waste time with this but I do not want to use outlook to access my mail accounts. I like it as it is. I have Office but that doesnt halp at all and I really dont want all my mail 'in the cloud'.
Can anyone tell me in really very simple english how on earth to sort this microsoft mess out please ???

If you have Office 365 you can use the Outlook program. If you don't have that you need to use the Windows 10 Outlook app.

Your 'Live' email exists in the 'cloud' and is downloaded to your computer. You haven't indicated if you have a MS account or not but it's all cloud based regardless.
