Windows 10 upgrade of Zenbook UX51VZA failed three times!

Three attempts to upgrade my Zenbook UX51VZA to Windows 10 ended in disaster. Unstable login screen; no response to login password.
I would prefer a clean Windows 10 installation from a bootable USB-stick.
How to proceed and will the Windows 8.1 registration key be accepted when activating Windows 10?
