How to activate voice navigation on Windows Phone 10 Maps

Here maps had voice guided navigation built in. Windows maps also says it has voice guided navigation. But when I one my Windows phone 10 maps on Microsoft 640 phone its not there. How do I activate voice guided navigation on Windows phone 10.

This article says that you need Cortana for it work, I think: Microsoft's new Maps experience is now available for non-Redstone Windows 10 Mobile | Windows Central

I'm having a similar problem. I have the Lumia 950xl running build .494 and drive a 2015 Honda Fit. I was trying to utilize the TBT (turn-by-turn) navigation function yesterday and it would pause the music, but I couldn't hear the voice command direction - which caused me to miss a turn, but that's neither here nor there because I eventually reached my destination.
With the anniversary update, will that be fixed or am I doomed to just staring at my phone while I drive? I'd like to live to see my next birthday please.
