Why can't I open OpenOffice or any documents?

Windows Central Question

I had been working for several hours with OpenOffice, and late last night, we lost power for a few minutes. I don't remember exactly what I was doing at that moment but had OpenOffice running with the spread sheet. I was bouncing back and forth between it and Chrome as I was checking and updating my passwords. Didn't realize until this morning, that I can't open any documents nor can I even open OpenOffice. I've check the Task Manager and can't find any reference as OpenOffice being used. Everything is in OpenOffice, including a court appointed guardianship, so I'm slowly starting to freak. Suggestions, Please!! THANK YOU
 
Start button, type "cmd", right click, Run as Administrator, type "chkdsk C: /F /R /B", press enter, type "Y" to the prompt, press enter, reboot machine, wait for it to finish.

Hopefully that gets you back and running. If not, report back and we can try other things.
