Edge cannot open a blank tab under latest win10

[Windows Central Question]

HI, I have the latest win10 update and am trying to use MS Edge. Everytime i open it it comes up with a new tab with the error message
Hmm, we can?t reach this page.
Try this
⦁ Make sure that you?ve got the right web address: .. its msn but I can't do the link as the forum sees that as spam

I have set the Settings in Edge to
Open Microsoft Edge with a New Tab Page
and
Open new tabs with A blank page

but I still get a new tab grinding away trying to open something before finally settling on that error

Any ideas how to fix this so that Edge just open to a blank page or even just to a pinned page of my choosing

can you check in control panel : internet settings whether there is a default page set there?

HI, thanks for that reply - it does not solve the problem unfortunately. I really have to question the design decision that would even have two locations interacting for setting the new tab default though- surely that is very poor design? It's okay I had given up on Edge before and thought I would try it after this latest update. I will just go back to using Chrome

but were you able to visit sites using edge?

Yes Edge works, it just is not very good - extensions do not install (presumably this will be fixed soon), there is this new tab grinding away trying to load msn problem. If this were the only browser available then I would live with it but there are many other better browsers so it is no big deal.

thanks for that link. My system is quite different to the one described there so I can't really apply that solution. To be honest I have spent enough time trying to fix a problem that is someone else's fault (ie Microsoft's fault). I can use Chrome, Firefox, Opera and probably other browsers with no problems and will just use those instead. That's okay
