Windows Central Question

I am having a problem with the Windows Central app crashing on load for Windows 10 (14393.10). I have uninstalled the app and re-downloaded it from the store. It does the same thing.

To note, the problem started after that quick 1 day cumulative update between Windows 10 (10586.464) and the Anniversary Release (14393.10).

This is the only app that crashes. It works fine on my mobile (Lumia Icon).

Any suggestions outside of resetting the PC?

it crashes before you get to the stage for sign in or after?

It crashes on loading... the frame of the app shows up for a split second - no content - then "poof" it's gone. I did a reset/refresh of Windows 10 on both desktops experiencing it. That didn't fix the problem. Tried again with uninstalling the app and re-installing it from the store. That didn't work either. It's strange as it works on my phone and tablet - but no desktops.

Actually, I just found the problem. After sending that last reply to you I thought of disabling Malwarebytes and Avast!. Disabling Avast! allowed the app to load. Re-enabling Avast! stopped the app from loading. The Avast! program was updated during that period. Now I have to figure out why Avast! is stopping it and why it's only the Windows Central app.

good work catching that - anywhere in avast that you can allow apps or programs to work? not getting blocked?

No, Avast! doesn't have exclusions. I'm going to write Avast! about it and I'll send Windows Central an email too. If anyone else uses Avast!, see if you have the same problem.

Interesting, whois mobifaq.com? They grabbed this tread, changed my name and Chintans' name and the app name.

I sent email to Windows Central using their contact form. Is that the best place? Also, I sent email to Avast to general inquiry. They do have a place to report false positives but there's a manadory file upload field; which in this case there's no need for a file. Does anyone with a paid version of Avast (I've been using the free version for over 10 years) know if there are log files and/or file exclusions? I tested the Windows Central App on my tablet by installing Avast and can confirm it is Avast stopping it. Be interesting to know what's in the Windows Central app that Avast thinks it's a virus.

Also, I did find an option in Avast called: Enabled Hardened mode
With this unchecked, the Windows Central App loads.

@ErikMT - thanks for reporting. I've notified our tech team, they will take a look!

Side note: We do get hit by 'scraper' sites and other unsavoury tactics from time to time. Best we can do is report the issue and hope a take down goes into effect.

Awesome! Interesting too on the scraper site. I guess Chintans' new name is "jeffwilson" and I am now "testike". Ha! I found that site when I Googled "Avast and Windows Central App".

You can tell it's a BOT. Easier to program a robot to change a username and some other words in the body rather than have a human do it all. That would be a full time job. Your legacy name will live on!

@James Falconer, I have heard back from Avast! this morning 8/15/2016.

They are declassifying it as a virus and tested it as being safe. They didn't go into what triggered it. They wrote: "Thanks for your patience, our Virus lab has now classified this as safe, and should be resolved with our next update."
