My lumia 920 screen has blacked out. How can i unlock it to get the data on my laptop?

I have tried soft reset I can hear the apps getting updated after the reset but unable to unlock it to read the data via my laptop

If you had a PIN set, then unless you can guess where the keypad would be, you may not be able to unlock the phone and do that.

if you can reach the stage of unlocking the phone, then connect it with a pc and copy the data over
You can even try using project my screen app to mirror the phone display on the pc and control it
