is it the end of the People App/hub?

Sadly, Microsoft is going towards the app model as opposed app-integrated-hub model.. I would love to see them give us a choice use hubs as a glorified app launcher or use the hubs as they were intended - make life simpler and integrated.

There was a line of thought that went like this: having a people hub with different social streams defeats the purpose of having a dedicated app and the social platforms lose out on advertising since there's no scope for people hub having adverts

True and not to mention that API changes required OS level updates.

If Microsoft had initially designed the hubs so that the apps could hook into them as opposed hubs accessing the service directly we may not have been lamenting the loss hubs today.
