Why can't I send texts from my contact list on my Windows 10 phone anymore?

In my contact list, there is no longer an option to send people texts. It is cumbersome to have to open the messaging app and look someone up to send them a text.

Are you talking about on your phone, I just opened the people app and send message is at the top as usual.

Or are you talking about your PC, if so the messaging + Skype idea has been scrapped since the anniversary update and the idea is now to take the SMS using your phone into Skype with the new preview app in the future.
