How do I take a picture of something

I assume you have a Windows phone, start the camera and look on the right hand side (If phone is vertical, at top if horizontal) for a small icon that looks like a camera with a circle running around it, this toggles the camera from front facing to back facing.

Just checked my Surface Pro and the icon is the same.
