microsoft account syn issues on wp10

Hi all hope someone can help. My wife's L930 finally packed in the other day, one to many drops by the baby! So she's been out and got the L650. I been setting it up for her and have her Microsoft account up and running on the device however it doesn't seem to be on the contacts emails and calendar. When we or I should say I, check the settings under each app there's no account attached so I go through the process of adding her Hotmail account which is her Microsoft account. It says account added successful then the app closes. When I reopen the app... There's still no account connected!?!
Iv done a hard reset to see if that sorts its with no joy. Her Gmail account works a treat it just seems to be her Hotmail (Ms account)

have you checked for app updates?
