Custom text alert sounds dissappearing

[Windows Central Question]

I loaded some custom sounds to my phone (into the ringtones folder) and edited some contacts and assigned those tones to contacts as text alert sounds.
A few days later the contacts had lost those custom alerts, although they still appeared in the ringtone folder.
I reassigned the tones to the contacts but a few days later they had gone again - why is this ?

Are you using Outlook contacts? If yes, it's probably b/c you were "upgraded" to the new Outlook.com which deleted contact photos and ringtones for many of us.

They've stuck so far but one person in this thread had it happen again after redoing them. Not sure if photos or ringtones or both.
