why does my camera app close as soon as I try to open it?

I have a Nokia Lumia 830 and ever since Friday, every time I try to use my camera, it closes the app as soon as it tries to open it.

Are you running insider builds? Did you try with a 3rd party camera app (from the store)? Did you soft/hard reset?
