how to stop auto cropping off lock screen pic?

Hi, I want to use a photo of both my kids as my lock screen but it automatically crops the pic and ruins the pic, how do I stop this. I don't care if there is black at the top and bottom of lock screen, in fact it would help to see icons. Cheers
