how do I get a new wrist band?

The band splitting is unfortunately a common defect with the Microsoft Band 2. If it's the Band 2 you're talking about, and the device is still under warranty, i'd encourage you to follow up with the vendor that sold it to you.

I've had two Microsoft Band 2's replaced at the Microsoft Store under warranty. But I also have Microsoft Complete, which is the extended warranty on the device.
