How do I get back the previous version of Photos?

and a number of great tools now gone for the new dumb down version!

You can't go back. The only possible way is to factory reset your phone and don't update that app but even that is not guaranteed in the least.

Why did Photos app change the editing capabilities?

Photos app used to contain a lot of power user editing functions like adjustments for Shadow, Highlight, straighten, etc. They are now missing in the newest version. Did Windows 10 pull the bait and switch and sold the editing capabilities or is charging for them? I wouldn't put it past them.

if you want to stay on w10 then use 3rd party app. eg. Lumia Creative Studio

And WHAT has MS done about it SOD ALL. this new photo editor is CRAP
