Windows Central Question

I'm thinking of getting the new Eve V laptop, but am wondering how powerful the CPU chips are. I know they're new, but wondering if anyone knows how they perform against older CPUs, specifically in the ones from the Surface Pro 3 line. Are there any benchmarks out now?
Would an i5-Y be more powerful than my i5-4300U chip?

The answer is yes. The difference is not that huge in benchmarks. I saw a couple of reviews comparing the benchmarks. I did order the i5/8GB/256GB version because it will be a direct replacement for my SP3 with identical specs except the SP3 by the time the Eve V ships will be about 2.5 years old. The biggest advantage I see is that the Eve V is going to be either fanless or with a fan that will have very little fan noise because the newer CPUs tend to run cooler and offer better battery life as well. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. Is the 7th gen i5-Y chip really as powerful as the 4th gen i5 in the Surface Pro 3? After my first post, I actually found some results on cpubenchmark and cpuboss showing that the new chips are still less powerful. From the reuslts I got, even the i7-Y is only just a bit stronger than the 4th gen i5 chip, which is kinda bumming : /

I also came across a post that the Eve team considered going with the regular i3/5/7 chips but didn't. I wish they had, or could have at least gone with two models (though I understand that would basically require them to make two different products). As I'm looking for an upgrade, getting a CPU which has about the same power as my current one is a bummer.

Any other thoughts on this?

Looks like battery life improvements and fan noise are not important to you. Raw benchmarks are. For me the first two are important, as much as I like my SP3, the fan noise and heat drive me a bit crazy, I expect those issues to be substantially mitigated in the Eve V. And battery life is stellar from their real world tests. That is what I am looking for in my next hybrid.

True, I mostly have my computer at home, so battery life isn't the top factor for me. Fan noise isn't that big of an issue for me either, despite pushing it typically hard. At any time, I'll have about 30+ chrome tabs, skype, mail app, groove music, Bridge and possibly Photoshop running. I know the extra 4GB will offset some load to make it a bit quicker, but I'm still looking for opinions/thoughts from people. Thanks!
