How do I restore my Lumia 1520 back to 8.1 from 10.0 without losing contacts and text messages?

I upgraded two days ago and would like to revert back. I want to keep my contacts and text messages.

Before upgrading, I downloaded the Microsoft SMS & Contact Backup. I backed content up to my SD card. I also had the backup functions checked on the device options.

After upgrading to Win 10, I no longer see the SMS & Contact Backup.

How should I proceed?

Open the messaging app, tap ... and then tap settings. Make sure that message backup is turned on and also for messages to be synced across devices. If you can, I would wait a day for it to backup all of your messages. The messages one is a separate setting from regular device backup!

Your contacts are in the cloud, so they should all appear when you downgrade. To check this, log into your Microsoft account on a PC to make sure that all of your contacts are there.
