I recently upgraded from a Nokia Lumia 930 running windows 8.1 to a Lumia 950 on windows 10 as the battery on the 930 couldn't handle running windows 10. However after logging into the 950 with my Microsoft account I noticed that text messages were being duplicated and sometimes tripled causing the messaging app to run very slowly as this means i have over 100k messages.
I have a theory that this could have happened as i have factory reset the new phone a few times to try and restore some settings from my old phone as some backups failed. As the sms backup cannot be accessed manually i cannot understand the root of the problem.
The texts on my old phone are exactly how they should be. Is there a way to force the sms backup to be in the image of my old phone to remove duplicates??
