New laptop sign in changed PC settings?

I just bought an Acer switch 10 laptop (notebook?). When I logged into it with my Microsoft account it made changes to my PC. The first thing i noticed was that the background picture in my PC had changed to the same as the laptop. No big deal, but then I realized that I had lost my network and all of its settings. Two questions. (1) I left Apple, in part, because it always did things for me automatically. Why did these changes take place with Windows 10? And (2) How do I keep changes made on one device from occurring on another device?

settings, accounts, sync your settings
These must have all been turned on the PC
