Why is my Lumia 550 screen 'blacking/becoming unresponsive' ?

It is happening intermittently when I move my hand near to the screen. It is as if the screen is hypersensitive and is responding to the 'fear' of touch by locking. It is very unhelpful when on a call or trying to listen to answerphone and respond to calls.

Sounds like either:

1. Something is covering your proximity sensor. Remove any screen protectors, etc.

2. Your proximity sensor is on the fritz, which means we're talking hardware repair. (warranty if you can)
