nokia+1020+we cannot connect to OneDrive to backup. Update your phone and try again

Sometimes this error message shows even after a successful backup. Open OneDrive and go to 'device backups' to check when the last successful backup completed.
 
settings+apps backup is separate from photos backup. From the error message, I presumed OP was talking about settings+apps backup. I have no idea about errors for photos backup...
