surface book remains blank for minutes after logging in

After logging in the screen stays black for several minutes before becoming active. the cursor is there and can be moved with the touch pad or mouse, but the screen stays black for a few minutes. Any ideas how to fix this?

Interesting. My Sony all in one, Windows 10 started doing the same recently. I thought it was a hardware issue. Sounds like maybe it is Windows..
