Windows Central Question

What optimization tips can ya'll share with me to make my Surface run faster?

First find out why it runs slow.
Normally windows (10) latest version (upgraded/updated) should run fastest.
You might want to limit the amount of apps that startup when you start windows, see task manager/startup.
Normally no further action is needed.

I am just suggesting a few tasks you can do to optimize your computer:

1. Regularly do a disk cleanup especially AFTER you have patches of updates, just installed.

2. Regularly do a disk defrag.

3. Regularly run a virus scan with your anti-virus program.

4. Minimize number of programs on Startup.

5. Scrutinize the programs installed in your computer. Delete the obsolete and the ones you rarely use.

That is just to name a few that regular users can perform.
But, if you do the list regularly, it will improve your computer's performance.

1.Disable all the startup programs, you don't really need them running all the time.
2. Observe the Task Manager and see what's hogging most of the resources and scrutinize unnecessary active software and remove it if necessary(DO A THOROUGH WEB SEARCH FIRST BEFORE UNINSTALLING ANYTHING).
3.Remove gunk files with Bleachbit.
4. Install firewalls like TinyWall and Peerblock and add only the specific rules you need, don't leave your PC port wide open.
5. Install only the stable version of the software, some unstable software are resource hog and can cause memory leak.
6. Make sure everything is up to date.
7. Make a complete backup of your system and do a system reset.

And also don't forget to scan your system for viruses and malwares.

Practice a healthy computing habit and you won't have to worry about anything even running without antivirus software and you'll be fine.
